A Very Special Thank You for a Beautiful Act of Kindness

At Grove House, we believe that remembering the people we love is an important part of healing — and sometimes, kindness can shine through in the most wonderful ways.

One of our young people sadly lost their mum in February last year. As the one-year anniversary approached, the care team at Grove House spent time thinking about how we could honour her memory in a way that felt meaningful and comforting. Mum had strong connections to the Yeadon and Guiseley area, a place full of memories, so this felt like the right place to begin.

Support Worker Lexi, made it her mission to help create something special. She reached out to Amanda from Memory Lane’s Gardens, which is part of Yeadon Tarn, with a request to create a small memorial plaque. The idea was to place it somewhere peaceful where the young person could visit, lay flowers, and remember the fun and happy memories of their mum.

The plaque was due to cost £60, which had been agreed through social care. However, after hearing the story, Amanda was deeply touched. She described the young man as a “warrior” and kindly shared that there would be no cost at all — the plaque would be made and installed completely free of charge.

This unexpected and generous act of kindness had an immediate impact on everyone involved. It reminded us how powerful compassion can be, and how strangers can come together to support a young person during a very difficult time.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Amanda from Memory Lane’s Gardens for her thoughtfulness, care, and generosity. This beautiful gesture will mean so much for years to come, and it shows our young people that they are not alone — their stories matter, and their loved ones are remembered

Acts like this truly make a difference, and we are incredibly grateful.
