Staff Case Study
Megan Queen – Support Worker – Supported Accommodation Services
“The pride you feel when you leave your shift is a feeling that will stay with you. Working with a great management team and the support from your shift partners makes the working day positive. You’ll never work a day in a place where you enjoy spending time!”
Megan studied Behavioural Science at university and started working with Restorative following graduation.
“I was looking for full-time work and never knew a job like this existed until a family member told me about Restorative. I’ve now worked here for over two years and have constantly developed in my role.”
Working as a Support Worker in one of Restorative’s settings, Megan explains more about what she enjoys within her role.
“It’s rewarding as you personally get to help a young person develop and create plans for their future. Being part of meetings, such as Looked After Child reviews and Personal Education Plan meetings has a sense of achievement. I’m also currently enrolled on and completing my level 4 in the workplace. And I attend many additional training sessions too, for example on Autism and ADHD, child exploitation and getting it right for young people.”
Megan says about Restorative’s range of different training sessions that they are “accessible for all staff” and “if staff in a setting need additional training for a reason specific for their home, then Restorative will find ways to support this and bring in new training sessions”.
Committed to continuing her development at Restorative, Megan looks forward to working across other settings within the company.
“My future goals within the company are to continue to work supporting the young people and gaining valuable skills that can be used across the settings. Each young person presents different needs, which are a point of learning for all of us.”
Describing the model of care and framework Restorative staff work to in their support of young people, Megan says it ensures young people are “well supported and safe in their environment… providing a base layer for care” and “different parenting techniques”.
She says Restorative offers a supportive relationship to all staff and that management are there to help with any additional needs. “The company take pride in supporting staff in all aspects, such as regular check-ins and house meetings. The communication between management and staff teams works well.”
To anyone considering a career working with children and young people in care, Megan says, of working at Restorative, “I can assure you that the pride you feel when you leave your shift is a feeling that will stay with you. Working with a great management team and the support from your shift partners makes the working day positive. You’ll never work a day in a place where you enjoy spending time! And the working shift pattern ensures you get a good amount of time off and can enjoy the finer things in life!”
