Memorial Update

Several months ago,  the team at Grove House supported a young person, Tyler, through an incredibly difficult time following the loss of his mum in 2025. As the first anniversary of her passing approached, staff wanted to ensure the day was marked in a meaningful and compassionate way.

In preparation for the anniversary, the team reached out to Amanda from Memory Gardens at Yeadon Tarn to ask about creating a small memorial plaque in honour of Tyler’s mum. In an extraordinary act of kindness, Amanda arranged for a beautiful plaque on Memory Lane and generously provided it free of charge. This thoughtful gesture meant so much to everyone involved and created a special place for reflection and remembrance.

We are pleased to share that the commemoration on 13th February 2026 was a truly positive and meaningful experience for Tyler and his family. Staff at Grove House worked closely with Tyler’s family and his Social Worker to ensure his siblings were aware of the memorial and could be part of the day.

Tyler was supported by a dedicated one-to-one staff member, Tiara, who had been working with him in the weeks leading up to the event. Tyra helped facilitate a meeting between Tyler and his siblings at Yeadon Tarn, where they visited the memorial plaque together. During this time, they shared cherished memories of their mum and laid flowers in her honour, creating a deeply personal moment of remembrance.

After visiting the memorial, the group spent some time together and finished the day with a meal at Wetherspoons, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It was a simple but meaningful way to bring the family together and celebrate their mum’s memory.

We are also delighted to share another piece of positive news following the event. Amanda was so impressed by Tyler during the visit that she kindly offered him the opportunity of an apprenticeship at Memory Gardens in Yeadon Tarn. Staff are currently exploring this opportunity with Tyler, which could potentially provide a wonderful pathway for his future.

This story reflects the very heart of restorative care – compassion, community, and supporting young people to heal, grow and find hope for the future.

A huge thank you to Amanda for her incredible kindness and to the Grove House team for their dedication and care in supporting Tyler and his family.
