Hot Chocolate Stall

At our service, we are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of the young people we support. Recently, one young person turned a simple idea into a wonderful community event, demonstrating creativity, determination, growing confidence and an inspiring spirit of kindness.

It all began when the young person shared with her care team that she would love to run her own lemonade stand. Through supportive conversations and some thoughtful planning together, they explored how she could bring her idea to life. As the weather began to get colder, the team discussed whether a hot chocolate stand might be an even better option. The young person loved the idea and decided this was the perfect plan!

With minimal support from the care team, she took the lead in making her idea a reality. She designed and created a colourful poster to advertise her hot chocolate stand, showing great enthusiasm and creativity. She then teamed up with a friend who lives on the same street, and together they walked around the neighbourhood, delivering flyers to homes and inviting people to join in the fun.

To help make the event even more successful, staff shared the poster with other residential homes, giving young people from across the service the opportunity to come along and take part.

When the big day arrived, the result was truly amazing!

The street soon filled with children and young people from the local neighbourhood, alongside young people from other residential homes. There was a wonderful atmosphere, with everyone coming together to enjoy hot chocolate, chat, laugh, play and make happy memories. It was a joy to see so many young people connecting with one another, sharing smiles and enjoying such a positive community experience.

Throughout the day, the young person worked incredibly hard to prepare and run her stand. She welcomed everyone warmly, spoke kindly to her visitors and showed a growing sense of confidence as the event progressed. What began as a simple idea had become a fantastic opportunity for her to develop valuable life skills, build relationships and experience the rewards of her own efforts.

By the end of the day, she had raised an impressive £45, which she generously shared with the friend who had helped her make the event happen. This thoughtful gesture demonstrated her kindness, appreciation and willingness to celebrate success with others.

More Than Just a Hot Chocolate Stand

This achievement was about so much more than selling hot chocolate. It was a wonderful example of what young people can accomplish when their ideas are encouraged, their voices are heard and they are supported to take the lead in their own experiences.

Through this initiative, the young person developed her planning, communication and organisational skills, strengthened her confidence and independence, and experienced the value of teamwork and community involvement. Most importantly, she had the opportunity to feel proud of something she had created herself.

We are incredibly proud of her achievement and would also like to celebrate the friend who supported her, as well as the care team whose encouragement helped turn her idea into reality.

A simple idea, a little teamwork and plenty of hot chocolate created a truly memorable day — one filled with laughter, friendship, confidence and kindness.
