Staff Case Study
Conrad Woodhouse – Support Worker – Residential Care
“To anyone wondering whether to try working in social care with young people, I say, give it a try… I only wish I’d tried it when I was younger!”
Conrad, a children’s football coach for over 20 years and fabric engineer, applied to Restorative to ‘try out’ working as a young person’s support worker. He enjoyed it so much, he stayed. Still with Restorative, he explains more about what he likes about working with young people at the company.
“I applied because I’d always enjoyed working with children and helping them to progress in football. Now I get to help and support children in their development whilst in the home. No day is ever the same, the children are keen to learn and the staff I work with are all good people.”
Conrad also enjoys the continuous professional development aspect of being a support worker at Restorative.
“I’m currently studying for my level 4 NVQ. I’ve also been on numerous courses set by Restorative, for which I have certifications for. The training provided by the company is excellent. Dave, Byron, Jo and Liam all deliver excellent courses, which help us to understand the job in detail and what’s needed so we can constantly keep progressing in our skills as well as the standard of care we deliver.”
Conrad is committed to developing his practice in support of young people, delivering a high standard of care and contributing to success in the Ofsted inspections Restorative is subject to as a care provider.
“My future goals with this company are to make the best support possible available for the children and help provide them with a safe home to live in. And in the settings where I work – I want them to achieve the best inspection results possible, as a result of the excellent care we’re dedicated to delivering.”
Commenting on the model of care Restorative follows in its support of children and young people, Conrad says, “The model of care the company asks you to work to is an excellent guide – not only for helping the children to develop, but for yourself.”
“To anyone wondering whether to try working in social care with young people, I say, give it a try. With Restorative you’ll gain your qualifications along the way and have a career for life you can follow. I only wish I’d tried it when I was younger!”
