Restorative Social Care Services has once again been proud to support the amazing local charity, Overgate Hospice, with our latest fundraising event — The Big Brew!

Organised by our fantastic Events Committee, staff and young people came together at Head Office to bake, bring in delicious goodies and help make the morning a great success.

The Big Brew gave everyone the opportunity to take five minutes out of their busy day to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, a slice of cake or a biscuit, and spend some time connecting with friends, colleagues and young people — all while raising money for an incredible local cause.

Overgate Hospice does an amazing job supporting people living with terminal illness and providing compassionate end-of-life care, as well as supporting their families and loved ones.

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated, attended, supported and helped organise the Big Brew. Your generosity and enthusiasm made the morning a fantastic success!

And we’re not stopping there! Our next fundraising event will be the Overgate Hospice Midnight Walk on Saturday 12th September 2026. We’re looking forward to getting involved and continuing our support for this very special local hospice.

Pyjama-Day-Fundraiser-for-Candlelighters

Pyjama Party Fundraiser

The Careers and Young People at Restorative SCS recently came together to host a fantastic pyjama party fundraiser in support of Candlelighters Charity, an incredible organisation that supports families of children with cancer.

The idea for the event was raised by one of our dedicated staff members, for whom the charity is particularly close to their heart. Working alongside our Events Committee, the staff member helped plan and organise the event at Restorative SCS’s Head Office.

The day proved to be a huge success, with staff and young people attending in their pyjamas to show their support for the charity. Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet, an exciting tombola filled with prizes and sweets, and a range of fun party games including Pass the Parcel, Sleeping Lions, and Musical Bumps.

To further support the cause, Restorative SCS pledged to donate £5 for every person who attended in their pyjamas. While we are still awaiting the final total, it is looking as though more than £300 was raised on the day for this amazing charity.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everybody who got involved in organising, planning, and attending the event. Your support made the day incredibly special, and it was wonderful to see everyone coming together for such an important cause.

The event was such a success that we hope to hold similar fundraisers again in the future.

Restorative SCS to Host Pyjama Day Fundraiser for Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Charity

Restorative Social Care Services is proud to announce a fun-filled Pyjama Day fundraiser in support of The Candlelighters Trust, a fantastic charity dedicated to supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer.

The special event will take place at the Restorative SCS Head Office on Wednesday 27th May 2026 from 12:30pm until 2:30pm and promises to be an afternoon full of laughter, community spirit, and fundraising for an incredible cause.

Staff members and young people across the organisation are being encouraged to come to work wearing their pyjamas and attend the “Pyjama Party” event at the office. The afternoon will include party games, delicious food, tasty treats, and a tombola where attendees will have the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

As part of the fundraising efforts, Restorative SCS has kindly pledged to donate £5 to Candlelighters for every person who attends wearing pyjamas, helping to raise even more money for the charity’s vital work.

Candlelighters provides invaluable care and support to children fighting cancer, as well as their families, offering emotional, practical, and financial assistance during incredibly difficult times. The charity’s work continues to make a real difference to the lives of so many families across the region.

A spokesperson for Restorative SCS said:

“We are delighted to be supporting such an amazing charity and bringing everyone together for a fun and meaningful event. It’s a great opportunity for staff and young people to have fun, raise awareness, and contribute towards supporting children and families who are facing incredibly challenging circumstances.”

The Big Sleep Out

Young people and dedicated care staff from Restorative Social Care Services came together on a crisp Calderdale evening to take part in the Happy Days Charity, ‘The Big Sleepout’—a powerful event raising awareness and vital funds for individuals experiencing homelessness, food poverty, and crisis across the region.

Held at the historic Dean Clough in Halifax, the challenge saw children living in residential homes and supported accommodation, alongside their carers, spent a night under the stars in solidarity with those facing hardship. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and a shared sense of purpose as participants gathered at 7:00 PM for a warm welcome and briefing on the night ahead.

To prepare for the challenge, young people and staff were offered a hearty warm meal upon arrival—a moment that set the tone for an evening rooted in connection, compassion, and community spirit. Conversations flowed, stories were shared, and bonds were strengthened as everyone supported one another through the unique experience of sleeping outdoors.

As the temperature dropped, sleeping bags were rolled out, pillows positioned, and the young people worked together to create their own makeshift sleeping spaces. Throughout the night, they encouraged and looked out for each other, embodying resilience and empathy—core values at the heart of restorative practice.

The Sleepout served as a meaningful reminder of the difficulties faced by many individuals across Calderdale who do not have a safe or stable place to call home. By choosing to participate, these young people and their care teams helped shine a light on the issue while raising crucial funds for the Happy Days Charity’s ongoing support work.

Restorative Social Care Services would like to extend a massive well done to all the young people and care staff who took part in this inspiring and worthwhile challenge. Their courage, teamwork, and willingness to stand in solidarity with those in need reflect the very best of our community.

Together, they made a real difference—and reminded us all of the power of compassion in action.

Wibsey House Volunteering – HHCK Elves Workshop

Last week, the dedicated staff team from Restorative Social Care Services, Wibsey House, rolled up their sleeves and volunteered alongside the incredible Halifax Homeless Community Kitchen (HHCK) at the Elves Workshop hosted by Halifax YMCA. Their mission? To help bring the magic, warmth, and joy of Christmas to children and families who need it most.

This year, HHCK is supporting 112 children, ensuring every single one of them gets to experience the wonder of Christmas Eve and enjoy a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Acts of kindness like this don’t just meet practical needs—they create memories that last a lifetime.

Natalie Miller, founder of HHCK, shared her hope that every child will receive a festive hamper and a Christmas Eve box, filled with everything needed to make their Christmas “just a little bit brighter.” In a time when many families are feeling the financial strain, community efforts like this shine even brighter.

Together, the Wibsey House “elves” and volunteers created:

  • Magical reindeer dust bags
  • Mini fidget gift bags
  • Festive hot chocolate and marshmallow cones
  • Beautifully wrapped hamper boxes ready to be filled with Christmas dinner essentials
  • Warm hats, scarves, gloves, and hot water bottles

These special items are now ready to be added to the children’s Christmas Eve boxes—each one made with love, care, and plenty of glitter!

The workshop was filled with laughter, Christmas music, creativity, and true community spirit. It was more than just a volunteer session; it was a morning that warmed hearts and reminded everyone of the power of coming together.

A huge thank you to all the Wibsey House elves for spreading joy, hope, and festive cheer. Your kindness will brighten Christmas for so many children and families this year. 🎄

Overgate Midnight Walk 2025

On the evening of 13th September 2025 — In a heartwarming display of community spirit, staff and young people laced up their walking shoes for a 10-mile sponsored walk in support of Overgate Hospice. The event, known as the Midnight Walk, kicked off at the stroke of midnight, lighting up the streets with glowing enthusiasm and charitable determination. The event started and finished from the iconic Piece Hall in Halifax.

Hundreds of people took part in the walk, which aims to raise vital funds for Overgate Hospice — a much-loved local charity providing specialist care and support for those living with life-limiting illnesses.

“It was incredible to see so many people coming together in the middle of the night for such an important cause,” said a spokesperson from Overgate Hospice. “Every step taken helps us continue offering care, compassion, and comfort to patients and their families when they need it most.”

Participants included staff members from various homes, alongside young people eager to make a difference. Many wore bright colours, flashing accessories, and personalised t-shirts in memory of loved ones cared for by the hospice.

This year’s walk is expected to raise thousands of pounds, with donations still pouring in online.

Organisers have called the event a huge success and thanked everyone who took part, donated, or volunteered on the night. Plans are already in motion for next year’s Midnight Walk, which promises to be even bigger.

The Overgate Big Brew

Restorative SCS held the Overgate Big Brew, coffee morning at Head Office for a second year on Friday 20thJune 2025, 12pm – 4.30pm. This is in support of Overgate Hospice, an amazing local charity who provide care and support for their patients and families.

The event was another success with young people, care staff, friends and families attending the event, enjoying a brew and some amazing cakes, buns and cookies made by the young people and care staff.

The event raised £159 for Overgate Hospice.

Restorative SCS would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in arranging this event and to everyone who attended.

Supporting Overgate Little Stars – Charity Drop-Off at Restorative

At Restorative, we’re passionate about giving back – especially when it comes to supporting small, remarkable charities doing meaningful work.

On Wednesday, 9th July, we’re hosting a donation drop-off at our Head Office between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.

We’re collecting pre-loved clothes, toys, and nursery equipment – anything that could bring joy to another child. Your donations will go directly to Overgate Little Stars, a wonderful charity supporting children and families in need.

Restorative SCS are hosting the Overgate Big Brew, coffee morning at Head Office for a second year. This is in support of Overgate Hospice, an amazing local charity who provide care and support for their patients and families.

We held the event last year and it was a great success and we had so many visitors.

We would like as many people as possible to support this years event, that we will be hosting at Head office on Friday 20thJune 2025, 12pm – 4.30pm.

Please could we ask that anyone who would kindly bake for the event to let us know so we can plan the day and what we need.

We are hoping that this years event is even more successful than last year and hopefully we can raise even more than the fantastic £245 we raised last year for Overgate Hospice!

Please can I ask all homes to promotes this event, display the poster and call to the office on the day for a brew and a cake.

Restorative SCS helping schools in Gambia

Restorative SCS are proud to have developed relationships with David Wright, to help support schools in Gambia with much needed equipment to be able to educate young people. David works as part of a charity in his spare time and everything he does is voluntary. Restorative SCS have recently provided over 20 laptops and mobile phones for the schools to use. When laptops and Mobile phones are replaced within Restorative SCS the old ones have been kept and reconditioned to be re-used.

Below is some information and pictures about the work David is doing and where the laptops and phones have gone to and how they will help in the future.

Here are the details of where the laptops have gone and how they are helping:

  1. Gambian Talents TV Received 3 laptops. They don’t have a website as they broadcast live on social media – YouTube/Tik-Tok/Facebook/Instagram all used. Gambian Talents TV – YouTube
  2. Rumba School received 2 laptops, this is the school that David is raising funds for to complete a comprehensive refurbishment – new roof/floors/décor and plenty of other good stuff. More details and photos on my JustGiving page David Wright is fundraising for The Gambian Schools Trust (justgiving.com)  Rumba is a village and the largest town nearest is Brikama.
  3. Kumba Jallow who teaches at N’Jalal Samba school received 1 laptop to aid her further teaching qualification. N’Jalal is a 6 hour drive up country, typical African tiny village with thatched roofed homes, no electricity and around 7 miles from the nearest road! The charity built a new school there and installed solar panels in the school to provide some power.

Laptops:

Kumba Jallow, a teacher at N’Jalal Samba Lower School, will use the laptop to help her study and will shortly be taking an online course to further her teaching qualifications.

Alieu Badera High School were in desperate need of tech. Three of the laptops went here.

Mobile Phones:

The full teaching staff at Conteh Kunda Lower Basic School were all thrilled.

Boubacarr, the night watchman at N’Jalal, he may not look too happy but he spent the rest of the day telling everybody how happy he was.

A young mother called Wurry, she lives in N’Jalal village, very remote and 7 miles from the nearest road, this is her first phone – to say she was beside herself with excitement is an understatement!
